Foster a Cat

A Temporary Home Can Change Everything

Foster homes are the bridge between danger and safety. A spare room, quiet bathroom, office, or secure indoor space can give a cat time to rest, gain weight, recover, become comfortable around people, and prepare for adoption or transfer.

You do not need to be a rescue expert. You need a safe space, basic reliability, patience, and a willingness to communicate.

Who Needs Foster Care

  • Friendly adult cats who suddenly have nowhere to go
  • Shy cats who need time to decompress
  • Mother cats with kittens
  • Weaned kittens who need socialization and routine
  • Cats recovering from illness, injury, or surgery
  • Short-term emergency cases waiting for transport or placement
  • Senior cats who need a quiet environment

What Fosters Usually Provide

Fosters provide a secure indoor space, daily food and water, litter-box care, observation, updates, and appropriate interaction. Depending on the case, OnlyCats may help with food, litter, carriers, veterinary coordination, and other supplies when available.

We Match Carefully

We do not want to place the wrong cat in the wrong home. We consider your schedule, household, other pets, experience, available space, and preferred foster length before proposing a match.

You can tell us what you are comfortable with. Some fosters prefer adults. Some are comfortable with kittens. Some can help for only a few days. Others can take longer-term cases. Every reliable foster option matters.

What to Expect

  • A discussion before placement whenever possible
  • Clear information about the cat and expected foster period
  • Guidance on separation, introductions, safety, and routine
  • Support with next steps, appointments, photos, and placement planning
